I did some research on that. For example, this website http://www.michaelsaunders.com/ is on top 10 in Google and they using the blog. However, their website is in business for 11 years, so it is not really a factor that they have blog or not. This guy, Lippyrealestate.com, is successful because he created a tons of sites and he branded as Lippy. He doesn't using blogs or RSS. However, very successful owner of flarren.com, which is on top of Google has a blog http://floridarelocate.blogspot.com/2006/01/port-st-lucie-overview.html and him, being in marketing, this is a part of promotion. As a conclusion, on this 3 examples, I could say that it is really depends how do you want to attack current market. I am building another website for my personal branding and I am going to use blog.
